چکیده

Buffalo holds the unique potentiality among the livestock sector at tropical and subtropical area. The faster multiplication of superior genotypes and the conservation of endangered buffalo breeds are the important issue. Recent advances in assisted reproductive technologies (ART), including estrus/ovulation synchronization, multiple ovulation and embryo transfer (MOET), in vitro embryo production (IVEP), cryopreservation of oocytes and embryos, sexing of embryos and semen, and somatic cell nuclear transfer (SCNT) or cloning, offer enormous opportunities not only to improve the productivity, but also to use buffalo for production of many new products through their applications for human health and nutrition. The use of molecular genomics will undoubtedly advance these technologies for their large scale application and resolve the key problems currently associated with advanced reproductive techniques i.e. embryo bank, cloning, stem cell technology and transgenesis. However, the acquisition of more specific information on oocyte and embryo culture requirements in vitro in this species has resulted in an improved efficiency over the years. This review presents the status of technologies and their application to buffalo species, emphasizing the advancement and limitations still to beat.

Reproductive Biotechnologies for Improvement of Buffalo: The Current Status

Reproductive biotechnologies continue to be developed for genetic improvement of both river and swamp buffalo. Although artificial insemination using frozen semen emerged some decades back, there are still considerable limitations. The major problem appears to be the lack of efficient methods for estrus detection and timely insemination. Controlled breeding experiments in the buffalo had been l...

Effects of Dietary Protein and Energy Levels on Productive and Reproductive Performance of Lactating Buffaloes

Twenty eight lactating buffaloes were used in a completely randomized design with 2×2 factorial arrangement of four experimental diets including low protein–low energy (LP-LE), low protein–high energy (LP-HE), high protein–low energy (HP-LE) and high protein–high energy (HP-HE). Results showed that the HP-HE diet recorded the highest digestibility coefficients of CP, EE, NFE, nutritive values, ...

Influence of age and cervical grade on anatomy, morphology and depth of cervical penetration in Sanjabi ewes

The structure of the sheep cervix limits the application of reproductive biotechnologies such as embryo transfer and artificial insemination. The aim of this study was to determine differences in cervical anatomy and morphology between Sanjabi lambs and ewes, and the relationship between cervical anatomy and cervical penetration in ewes. Four hundred and sixty eight postmortum cervices belongin...

Estimation of Economic Value for Production, Reproductive and Survival Traits of Buffaloes of Khuzestan Province in Two Milk Sale Conditions

In this study, production, population and economic parameters of 30 buffalo herds of Khuzestan province in two sale conditions during 2016-2017 were used to estimate the economic value for production, reproductive and survival traits. Economic value of the traits were estimated by one unit increase for each trait using the maximum profit trend. The average annual revenue, cost and profit per he...

A Comparison of Postpartum Depression in Mothers Conceived by Assisted Reproductive Technology and Those Naturally Conceived

Objective It is thought that mothers who conceive via assisted reproductive technology (ART) may be at greater risk of postpartum depression (PPD) because of the problems and psychological stresses associated with ART treatment. The aim of the present study is to determine the occurrence of PPD among mothers conceiving via ART in comparison with mothers naturally conceiving, using Edinburgh Pos...
